BRATISLAVA IN WINTER
Christmas is coming, you are watching Christmas movies, everything is so magical and you wish you were there? Well, you can actually be part of a real Christmas movie—it’s called Bratislava in winter.
This European city, the capital of Slovakia, offers a mesmerising story that you will want to read again and again.
Christmas decorations, Christmas music, Christmas vibes, and a buoyant atmosphere are waving from every corner. Close your eyes, open them again and again, and only then will you believe that you are not dreaming at all.

For a worry-free experience, purchase a Bratislava Card and enjoy the magic. You can purchase it online through the Bratislava Card App, and you will have free public transport, free entrance to a plethora of museums and castles, discounts at restaurants, and much more.
You can start your journey by visiting Freedom Square, which is not in the heart of the city, but it’s worth visiting as you can relax before you go to the actual downtown.

The Presidential Palace is also worth visiting; you cannot enter inside, though. However, you can take a walk in the lovely park behind the palace and enjoy the stunning views.
The sun’s rays will intersect among the irresistible greenery and will reflect on your smiling face. You will be inspired, grateful, and free. Rest as much as you can because once you get to the downtown, there will be a lot of walking and climbing a myriad of stairs.

You can start by climbing Michael’s Tower. Dressed in Baroque style, this tower offers panoramic views of the elegant town. Mind you, climbing all towers and castles is worth it only if the weather is nice. Otherwise, if it’s foggy, all you will see is complete whiteness.
The weather was on our side, so we were lucky enough to enjoy the captivating views. The tower is 51 meters tall; expect to climb a narrow staircase.
Don’t feel discouraged because once you get to the top, all the effort will gently smile at you and let you enjoy the picturesque landscape. Your eyes will catch a great radius of dazzling Bratislava and create one more perfect picture for your travel memories.

Head towards the Primate’s Palace, an elegant building which you will fall for immediately. Embraced in a neoclassical style, this building contains rare collections of 17th-century English tapestries. In the past, the palace was a residence for an archbishop, and today it is the seat of the Mayor of Bratislava.
From the very first step, your mind will take you into a royal-like experience. You’ll feel like you are part of a royal family, since everything feels story-like.
Walking on the red carpets, listening to history, perceiving incredible art—nothing else can be felt but delight. Another climb through a narrow staircase leads to the Old Town Hall. It is one of the oldest buildings in Bratislava and features a City History Museum. Climb to the top and see the gorgeous Christmas markets from above. It is especially spellbinding at night.

Inhaling the winter air, embracing the Christmas spirit, absorbing the magical music—your psyche will enter a different realm that you will want to stay in forever.

The cathedrals in Bratislava also glow in a festive and serene Christmas spirit. You can visit St. Martin’s Cathedral, in which many Hungarian kings were crowned. In the past, Bratislava was the capital of Hungary, not Slovakia. After World War I, it became part of Czechoslovakia, and in 1993 Slovakia became independent, with Bratislava as its capital. The cathedrals will take you to another page of your magical story and will let you write the lines.

For further amazing experience, you can visit the Multium Gallery. It offers a whole new universe, making you feel like you are in space. You will be amazed, confused, and filled with adrenaline at times. The optical illusion will forever be an interesting phenomenon that will trick your brain again and again, and you will once more wonder and admire human nature.

Christmas markets in Bratislava are something you see in Christmas movies. Christmas cookies, traditional food, ornaments, Christmas music, and snow are the cherry on top. Everyone is so joyful that all you can feel there is magic.
The smell of the food will create positive memories which you will remember forever. Walking around the carefully shaped decorations, tasting the irresistible flavours, you will never want to leave.

Bratislava Castle is another wonderful place to visit. There is an elegant part with red carpets in which the museum is housed, and another part in which the actual old castle is located. The castle was severely damaged by fire in the 19th century and was reconstructed after a century.

For one more incredible, magical, and unforgettable experience, take the Christmas tram. Dressed in Christmas decorations, filled with Christmas music, and full of festive people, you will move into another Christmas dimension.

If you want to experience more of Slovak culture, go to the Slovak Philharmonic or theatre if there are concerts or performances at the time you visit.

Devín Castle is also a tourist attraction. It is a little bit outside the town, but if you want to see the Morava and Danube rivers merge, the trip is worth it. You can see the Danube from the city as well. Make sure you check whether the castle is open if you want to go inside.

Speaking of outside the centre, the Blue Church is also on the list. It is dedicated to the Hungarian princess Elizabeth, who was famous for her charitable works. The church is charming with its vibrant blue nuances.

My highlighted cafés and restaurants are Mackafe if you are a cat lover, and Schöcokafe if you want a Christmas market and vibes view.
Mackafe is a special place in the heart of Bratislava that will melt your heart the moment you step inside. There are several cats that are taken care of, and you can enjoy your coffee or hot chocolate together with these cute friends.
Schöcokafe is in the very centre of Bratislava and is absolutely perfect for a Christmas mood. Enjoy your hot drink while writing your Christmas story.

Bratislava in winter is a city of love, positivity, joy, and infinite happiness. It is a ravishing Christmas universe that takes you on a trip to a real dream.
