Planning a trip around Europe
How many cities can I fit in?
As a rule, two or three nights per city. A week fits three cities comfortably, two weeks five or six. More than that and the trip becomes the train timetable.
Train or plane?
Trains for cities a few hours apart, planes for the long jumps. The guide picks for each leg of the trip, with the travel time.
When should I book?
Flights and hotels as early as you can, especially in summer. Most long-distance trains open for booking a few months ahead, and the guide notes which parts to book first.
